Cross Permanent Match Necklace: A Fire Starter You Can Wear
A cross permanent match necklace is a solid metal cross pendant with a reusable fire starter hidden inside the body. The loop at the top and the chain let you wear it as a necklace, or clip it to a keyring so it is always within reach. It comes in three finishes — brass, silver and black ice — and ships worldwide from AXLIGHTER.
Photos currently show the silver finish. Brass and black ice use the same cross body with a different surface treatment; see the product page for the finish you want.
Silver finish: polished cross body, loop and chain at the top.The rod pulls out of the cross and strikes into a flame.
Three finishes: brass, silver and black ice
Brass — warm gold tone that develops a soft patina with handling. The most classic look for a cross pendant.
Silver — bright, clean and neutral; the finish shown in the photos above. Pairs with any chain.
Black ice — dark, low-shine surface for a discreet look that does not draw attention on a keyring.
All three are the same cross-shaped permanent match body; only the surface finish differs. If a finish is out of stock, contact us and we will tell you when it is back.
How a permanent match works
A permanent match (also called a forever match or fire starter) is not a flip-top lighter with a fuel tank. Inside the cross is a slim rod with a fuel-treated wick at the tip, and a flint strip on the body. Pull the rod out, strike it along the flint, and the wick catches a flame. Blow it out, put the rod back, and the same piece is ready to use again — add a few drops of lighter fluid to the wick when it runs dry.
Because there is no pressurised gas inside, the pendant ships dry for transport safety. Add a small amount of lighter fluid before first use. Keep it away from children and never leave a lit rod unattended.
Necklace, keychain or everyday carry
The cross is a solid metal pendant, so it has a little weight. Most people wear it on a short chain, hang it from a bag, or clip it to keys with the small chain at the top. It is a piece of jewellery that also happens to start a fire — useful for camping, a backup on a hike, or simply a cross you can carry every day.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is a cross permanent match necklace?
A cross-shaped metal pendant with a reusable fire starter built into the body. The top loop and chain let you wear it as a necklace or attach it to a keyring.
Does it really light a fire?
Yes. Pull out the rod and strike it against the flint on the cross body; the wick at the tip catches a flame. It is reusable — top up the wick with a few drops of lighter fluid when it runs dry.
Is it a lighter or a fire starter?
It is a permanent match, i.e. a fire starter. There is no fuel tank, flint wheel or flip lid. That is why it can be made as a slim cross pendant and shipped without pressurised fuel.
Which colours can I choose?
Three finishes are offered: brass, silver and black ice. The photos on this page show the silver version; the other two use the same cross body with a different surface treatment.
Can I wear it every day?
Yes. It is a solid metal pendant with a loop and chain. It has some weight, so a short chain or a keyring is more comfortable than a long necklace.
Does it arrive ready to use?
It ships dry for transport safety. Add a few drops of lighter fluid to the wick before the first strike, then keep the rod seated inside the cross when not in use.
